When Patrick O'Brian was looking for an artist to represent the colorful,
complex and salty world of the British Navy in the Napoleonic Era, he
wanted an artist of very special abilities. He found them in Geoff Hunt.
Geoff studied graphic design at Kingston and Epsom Schools of Art
1966-70. After two years in advertising he became a freelance artist and
designer. He was art editor of Warship Journal from 1977-79. He served as
a designer and typographer of many books on marine subjects published by
Conway Maritime Press.
In 1979-80 he sold up house and with his wife cruised their yacht
Kipper to the Mediterranean and back. Since returning he has dedicated
himself to marine painting. His work is now represented in public and
private collections in Britain, the United States and worldwide.
In 1989 the Royal Naval Museum at Portsmouth purchased his series of
twelve paintings depicting the Navy's work during the Napoleonic War.
He was elected to membership of the Royal Society of Marine Artists in
1989 and has served as Honorary Treasurer since 1992.
His paintings are featured in The Tall Ship In Art, recently published
in England.
