Mr. Kirby’s 52 years of engineering and management
experience have covered product research and development to technical
publications. Most recently, Mr. Kirby worked with the conception and
implementation of a major waterfront revitalization project capitalizing
on the Heritage Culture, Technological and Natural History, with a goal of
developing a world-class visitor attraction in Troy, N.Y. He has a
Master’s degree from Boston College, with additional studies at MIT and
the Naval War College. Over the years he has built an extensive art
library and studio, working with oil paints and scratch-built scale
models, his work can be seen in many public and private collections.
He was a
U.S. Naval Commander, and has had affiliations with the U.S. Navy League,
National Maritime Historical Society, the Institute of Aerospace Sciences
(as Chairman of the Northeast Chapter), the Concord Academy of Fine Arts
and the New Britain Museum of American Art. He also holds a commercial
pilot’s license. His
discovery of art began as a modest effort as a student of the Famous
Artists School (in Norman Rockwell’s time there). Over the years it has
became his “new” passion. “When I retired from the "rat race" I was not
only able but glad to retire "to" something rather than retiring "from"
something. “ His work has been exhibited at the Boston Museum of Fine
Arts, Salem's Peabody Essex Museum and the Concord Art Gallery.
