Named for the capital of Minnesota, Steel Passenger Liner ST. PAUL was launched in Philadelphia by William Cram & Sons in 1895. She was chartered by the U.S. Navy for active service in both the Spanish-American War and World War I, but returned to Merchant service in 1919. She was celebrated as one of the set of six United States postage stamps to commemorate the 1907 Pan-American Exposition.
