Today it's a popular Summer retreat, but from the 1700s to the mid-1800s, the tiny island of Nantucket, Massachusetts was known as the "whaling capital of the world." Whale ships were built at Brant Point and sailed all over the world in search of whale oil, returning to bring tremendous prosperity.
