Frigate USS CONSTITUTION & Revenue Cutter, August, 1799

SOLD

This incredible ‘bird’s-eye’ view painting shows the Frigate ‘Constitution’ in her rarely seen original appearance. Visible is her wide yellow-ochre gun stripe, her open waist and hammock nettings, and her ornamental stern carvings.

Samuel  Nicholson was her commanding officer and he had he ship patrolling between Hatteras and the Florida Straits. The ship is seen here in the company of the Revenue Cutter, ‘General Green.’
