River Landing: Steamboat MORNING STAR Unloading (The Louisville and Henderson Line)

In the 19th century, steamboats connected communities on the rivers of America bringing vital commerce and news on a regular schedule. Built in 1894 by Edson White, the MORNING STAR was a paddlewheel steamboat that served as a floating chapel, schoolroom, print shop, dispensary, and home for missionaries. White and his associates used the boat to teach basic skills to former slaves and their children in the Yazoo Valley of Mississippi.
