Bark in Kill Van Kull, New York, 1915

watercolor, 6 1/4” x 14 1/4”

$4,500

Separating Staten Island from the New Jersey shore, the Kill was a busy waterway. A tug and lighter head up into New York Bay while a coastal schooner stands out from the Bayonne docks in light air. The refinery of the Standard Oil Co. was a feature of the Bayonne waterfront and the bark will load barrels of petroleum and case oil when her inbound cargo is discharged.
